Buy Links:Review:The only thing I wished about this book was having a short story featuring Sulli just because we have a main character from there and they are mentioned a few times but at the end of the day, there isn't a lot of backstory about that place and I find that quite interesting.
Out of the 6 short stories, my favorites were definitely the first one and the last one. They were both so whimsical and I loved how these stories were adapted into the Grishaverse. I also had a few stories that I didn't like that much but I still found them to be intriguing.
What really stood out to me was how some of the stories seemed to be Grishaverse retellings of classic fairytales such as The Nutcracker or Little Mermaid.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and still need to pick up the latest duology soon.

Review:I definitely expected way more from this book because of all of the hype surrounding it when it came out. Unfortunately it fell kind of flat for me. While it was still intriguing in some areas, I expected a lot more.
What stood out to me the most was the beginning of the book because I was very curious as to why she killed her husband and then completely stopped talking for years and years. However, as the book continued, it slowly became more of a murder mystery rather than diving into more of a criminal psychotherapist element which is what Theo was for.
As for the plot twists, I definitely had an inkling before it was revealed so I was a bit disappointed because I was still hoping that there would be something surprising. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Overall, I still found parts of it interesting but definitely did not live up the hype that I expected from everyone.

Heart of Thorns by Bree BartonPublished July 31, 2018
Buy Links:Review:I was pleasantly surprised by this book mainly because I went in with no expectations whatsoever especially since I haven't heard too much about this book. I really enjoyed the feminist messages in this book and how strong the women were. What I find most interesting is that time and time again, there have been depictions and stories about women surviving themselves without any sort of influence of men and thrived. And yet it is somehow men who is "dominant" in today's society...ANYWAYS.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the love intrest. He was such a sweetheart and a soft boy. However, despite me liking him, I didn't actually care about the romance itself. I didn't find it realistic and it at times, it felt awkward between him and Mia.
Overall, there were parts I liked and parts I didn't care much for and unfortunately I don't think I will continue with the series as I'm not invested enough to find out what happens next.

My biggest issue with the book was the whole romance. I never once understood the chemistry between the two main characters and I didn't get it. Cool, they met at 4am on a random day and started chatting when she entered the bodega that he worked at but was that encounter so meaningful that they fell instantly in love? I don't think so. The romance was not at all relatable and felt very insta-lovey which I hate.
And since the entire book centered around the romance and with me disliking the romance, the book just overall fell flat for me. I wasn't invested in the plot and what they were going through either. Overall, this book wasn't for me and I'm super hesitant to pick up another book from this author.

I also loved how the author built up on the world building so it's so much more lush than the first book. The politics between the various daeva tribes really fleshed out and I liked learning more about the differences between the daevas and the shafits.
The various characters also grew and changed throughout the book as more information came to light and it was rewarding to read all of that. I'm super excited for the final book and hope to pick it up ASAP.
