Review:
This book exceeded all of my expectations.  I didn't bother reading the synopsis right before I started this book so I was pleasantly surprised by everything that was happening from the "outcasts" who were chosen to the competition to the dragons and just everything.

I loved how dragons played such a pivotal role in this because a lot of fantasy with dragons usually use them as a prop.  However, in this book, they were very much front and center and I loved reading about the various kinds of dragons and their interactions with their respective riders.

All of the characters were so different and while yes, I agree that they were all very stereotypical archetypes, I also found them to be endearing mainly because of their interactions with each other.  I loved their squabbles and just reading about how they all tried to be rivals and enemies but also tried to work together.

I also found the writing style to be well done as everything flowed nicely together.  I'm definitely intrigued to pick up the sequel so hopefully it does come out at some point after the whole drama that happened with the author earlier this year...
